Price a Mozilla Data Collective listing knowing the buyer pays 5 percent on top and no payout day is promised
Mozilla Data Collective lets a provider set the dataset fee in its sole discretion. Its terms add a platform fee of 5 percent of the dataset fee, bundled into the total price the buyer sees at checkout and split off by Stripe at settlement, and reserve the right to change the percentage on 30 days' notice. The provider receives the dataset fee less the payment processor's charges, on the payout schedule set in its own Stripe account; the terms say MDC makes no representation about the timing of any payout. The platform's FAQ of 13 November 2025 still said it only planned to charge a commission on priced datasets, so the 5 percent is new in the terms last updated on 6 May 2026. The provider terms also call the remittance net of the platform fee while charging that fee to the buyer, so confirm at checkout on a test listing who bears it.

- Mark a Mozilla Data Collective dataset non-exclusive at upload if you sell the same data elsewhere
- Sort marketplaces by what the platform does: a payment rail keeps 2 to 5 percent, a listing site keeps 15 to 30
- Read the payout clock, not the sale date: every platform that states one starts it when the buyer has paid
It is shown on its own, not counted into a figure.
