Most buyers posting for codebases on freelance boards ask the owner to name a price, and budget a few thousand dollars

Of about 25 Freelancer.com posts read (Dec 2025 to Oct 2026) that buy or license private codebases for AI training or benchmarking, most state no rate, and many ask the owner for an 'Expected price', 'expected licensing fee' or 'Asking price'; their budgets cluster at INR 75,000 to 500,000 (about $800 to $5,200) per project, with outliers at $20,000 to $150,000 (Freelancer Enterprise, 50,000+ line repositories) and $150,000 to $250,000 (about 1 million lines of COBOL). Where a rate is stated it is low: $1,500 to $3,000 for a 500,000 to 1,000,000 line COBOL codebase, and $1,000 to $7,500 by accepted PRs (RSL Solution).
