Creators of environments and tasks are paid by difficulty tier, with most of the price guaranteed and a smaller quality bonus paid after release
Hack The Box pays community creators per piece of content on a published scale: a machine (a full cyber environment) from up to $300 (easy) to up to $1,100 (insane), a challenge from up to $150 to up to $650, a Sherlock scenario from up to $125 to up to $1,250. About 80 percent is guaranteed and 20 percent is a quality bonus; for challenges half is paid when the piece passes internal evaluation and the rest two weeks after release. Chakra Labs paid on merge only ($1,000 to $2,000 per app clone). Compare machine-made terminal tasks at $0.05 each (arXiv 2608.05466) and expert-authored tasks at $100 to $1,800 on Terac and Outlier.
