Shift Technologies
A US online used-car retailer in chapter 11 from 2023, whose two codebases were sold in the estate in 2024. Recorded here: 2 public prices.
Latest record Mar 2024
Public prices involving Shift Technologies
- All of Shift Technologies Inc.'s intangible assets (used-car e-commerce platform software and legacy codebases, the Shift.com and Fair.com domain names, other domains, brands and a patent), sold in four transactions to three bidders in the Chapter 11 IP sale run by Hilco Streambank
Status: bankrupt. Stated by the seller's own sales agent, and the four prices in the filed declaration (Doc. 445) add up to the same total, so the docket confirms it. 197 buyers were contacted and 40 worked through an NDA and diligence. The primary drivers of value were the domain names; the software had a single qualified bidder and no auction. Hilco's news page says the sales closed in March 2024. Not a records price, so it is filed as a deal total, not in the company cell.

$2,420,000per sale of one bankrupt company's whole intangible estate (four transactions)
- The Shift Technologies codebase (online used-car platform) and the legacy Fair Technologies codebase, with the books and records supporting them, sold in Shift Technologies' Chapter 11 IP sale run by Hilco Streambank. Buyer: Scott Painter, an individual.
Status: bankrupt. Only one qualified bid came in for the codebases, so the debtors cancelled the adjourned auction and named Painter the successful bidder; approval was set for 22 Feb 2024 (the order itself is not on RECAP). The same sale fetched $1,365,000 for the Shift.com domain and $900,000 for Fair.com, and Painter also paid $35,000 for four other domains, so the domain names were worth far more than the code. Closing confirmed on 21 Oct 2026 by the seller's agent: Hilco Streambank's case study says the process ended in four transactions to three bidders for $2,420,000 in all (the four prices add up to that), with a single qualified bidder for the software, and its news page says the sales closed in March 2024.
